Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Last week I was lucky enough to spend the morning at the Soho hotel with Estée Lauder to learn more about their Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign and to hear from Elizabeth Hurley about why following in Evelyn Lauder’s footsteps is so important to her.
Breast Cancer is something we, as women, all think about but what’s more important is that we talk about it and act upon it. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is working hard to raise money so that important research can be made into the different types of breast cancer and how they can all be treated differently. So of course raising money is hugely important and is the main drive but there are many ways you can help with the campaign so I thought I’d try and inspire you to do so.
Talk about it //
Spread the word. One of main reasons more women are surviving breast cancer is because they are catching it early. The less taboo the subject is, the easier it is to tell your mum, sister, friend and most importantly doctor that you have concerns. It’s a subject that shouldn’t be embarrassing to talk about, so talk about it. (@BCAcampaign)
Raise funds//
As mentioned, money is crucial for cancer research and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation is an A star rated foundation so all the money is well spent. You can help by choosing to buy limited edition products in October that give money to the campaign but you can also raise money yourself in any way you wish. Do a bake sale at school, sell your unused beauty products or just simply donate! Below this post are links to some great beauty products that are donating a percentage of sales to Breast Cancer Research this month.
Don’t forget yourself //
It’s easy throughout all of the campaigning, money raising and word spreading to forget yourself and to forget that you as a woman are also at risk. Checking yourself can seem a bit awkward and maybe you’re not really sure what you’re checking for, so do some research and make it a priority. This website really clearly explains how to do a self examination so make sure to do them regularly and don’t be embarrassed to speak to your GP if you have any questions or concerns.
I hope that by writing this post to spread the word, doing a check myself (sorry for the visual) and donating what I can, I am doing my bit this year. So now it’s your turn. How do you think you can help?
