PICK A CRAYON
The world of lip crayons is a pretttty overwhelming one. All the brands seem to be jumping on the bandwagon and creating their own to add to the bunch. I have a fair few as you can see so I thought I’d give you the low-down for the ones I’ve tried.
Sheer
If you like a sheer wash of colour then the Clinique Chubby Sticks come in a crazy amount of shades or for a drugstore option the Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Puckers do pretty much the same job. Both are moisturising on the lips and wind up at the bottom so no sharpener is needed. For other sheer options you can go for the Lipstick Queen Glossy Pencil or the Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm. I have Lipstick Queen’s ‘Genre’ which is a gorgeous orangey red and because of the semi-sheer formula you can’t ever go over the top with it. I’m not a huge fan of the Pixi balms, but if you like tinted lip balms this might be the one for you!
Glossy
If a glossy finish is your thing, I’d recommend the new Bourjois Colour Boosts and the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains. The Bourjois crayons are incredibly pigmented, but you might need a bit of finger dabbing to keep it looking natural. The Revlon Balm Stains look great on, but if you’re funny with smells like me you may not like them as much as everyone else seems to.
Pigmented
If lip crayons are your lipstick alternatives than opt for the super pigmented ones that give amazing colour payoff. The Clinique Chubby Sticks Intense are amazing, my favourite shades include Heftiest Hibiscus and Mightiest Maraschino. The Urban Decay Super-Saturated high gloss lip colours really impressed me when I first tried them in the Oz palettes. The colour pay-off is incredibly strong and they feel really moisturising and glossy on. I also really like the Lord & Berry shining lipsticks that I mentioned here, they’re easy to use and last well. Annoyingly the super-saturated and the shining lipsticks don’t wind up which is a shame, but they’re still lovely.
My all time favourite picks would be the Clinique Chubby Intense, the Bourjois Colour Boosts and the Lipstick Queen Glossy Pencil. Are there any I’ve missed that you’d recommend?
