MY DESK SPACE

When I asked on Twitter if you’d like to see a ‘What’s On My Desk’ post there was a resounding YES… so here it is, just in it’s normal state (I swear I didn’t spend 15 minutes tidying up the mess!).

I left my marketing job seven months ago and have since been working on my blog, YouTube and other freelance projects full time. It’s actually turned out to be more full time than my old 9-6 routine, so it quickly became obvious that I needed a proper desk and a space I could work in. I’ve always suffered from back problems so as tempting as it is to work from my bed/lounge/beanbag, it would kill me.

My desk is actually from Ikea and it’s just a simple frosted glass table top with white legs. To go with the desk I also have these amazing (and affordable) frosted glass wall mounts that were only £14 each and can be written on with white board pens. I use the one on the left to plan my blog posts and the one on the right for photos/invites/nice memories.

As you can see I have an iMac and this was a recent purchase of mine thanks to some Westfield vouchers and a little dip into my savings. I bought a basic macbook before Uni, then updated to a Macbook Pro three years later which I still use for when I’m out or away from my desk. The main reason I wanted an iMac is because of the memory size, my Macbook was permanently full because iMovie files are just so huge and I hate relying on an external hardrive. Talking of which, I have a ‘passport for Mac’ hardrive on my desk too for daily paranoid backups.

Beauty wise there are different products on my desk everyday depending on what I’m writing about or trying out. I’m currently spritzing the Jo Malone Saffron Cologne Intense* which is insanely yummy, rich and sexy-smellin’. I also have a candle around and I’m loving burning the NEOM Enchantment candle* which smells incredible and the pretty wooden lid also doubles up as a nice coaster for my Rob Ryan mug (thanks Gemma!). I also like to keep my Diptyque Baies room spray on hand for days when I’m in and out the room and don’t want to leave a candle burning. I like to keep a hand cream and lip balm on my desk too which at the moment are the Antipodes Joyful and Nivea’s Caramel Cream lip butter.

I’m a stationary geek and if you saw inside my Caroline Gardner notepad you’d all think I’m absolutely nuts. I plan everything and list making is genuinely one of my favourite things to do! I’m not a very tidy writer though so I like to keep a separate pad of paper around to scribble frantic notes and to-do’s on, this is where my ‘5 days a week’ paper mousepad comes in. I could buy everything from this brand, in fact I have a few bits scattered around the house already, but this list-enabler is perfect for my desk.

Finally the newest addition to my desk, a simple quote in a frame that I’ve always lived by and one that stops me getting too upset or hung up on anything. The frame is by Quotable Cards with one of their greetings cards placed inside and I bought them both from Utility which is one of my favourite gift shops in London. You can easily make something like this yourself though!

So there’s a peak into a tidy day in my office. What essentials do you keep on your desk?
