LONDON TUBE MAKEUP TIPS
Come on London ladies, we’ve all been there… You wake up late, you only have 10 minutes to get ready and let’s face it, you can’t straighten your hair on the tube so you prioritise the hair and pack up some makeup essentials for the tube journey ahead.
I’ve seen some truly horrific makeup application go down on the tube, from caking on foundation with what looks like a paint brush to applying heavy powder with the dreaded sponge. I wouldn’t recommend doing your makeup on a really crowded tube but for days when the tube is less busy and time is not on your side, here are my top tips for makeup on the go…
The most important thing when doing your makeup on the go is hand sanitizer, you don’t want to be going near your face with grubby tube hands! I love the Soap & Glory Hand Maid because it’s one of the few that doesn’t smell of alcohol and I also like to keep some wipes on hand just in case! Applying foundation on the tube will never been enjoyable or pretty but I find using a foundation like the Shiseido Perfect Refining foundation makes it all a bit easier. The packaging is tiny so takes up little space in your makeup bag and the foundation itself has a tiny nib so you can squeeze a little amount onto your finger or brush and quickly blend in. I find doing little sections quickly works the best and less is more, because remember the lighting on the tube is far from daylight so don’t over do it. Concealer is easy, use one with an easy doe-foot applicator and blend in with your finger, my choice is the NARS Radiant Creamy concealer. If you need a bit of bronze use something like the Bourjois Bronzing Primer so you don’t need to carry a huge bronzer brush with you, this one can easily be blended in with fingers. The blush I’d chose is the Stila Convertible Color in ‘Gerbera’ as it’s easy and quick to use and can double up as a mirror.
You want something simple for the eyes so I’d use Rimmel’s Scandal Eyes Eyeshadow Crayon, ‘Bullet Proof Beige’ all over the lid and ‘Bad Girl Bronze’ as a rough liner along the top lash line. Maybelline ‘The Rocket’ is a really nice drugstore mascara that I’ve been wearing recently, but you can just use your favourite! If you want to do a lip, use something simple in a crayon form, I like the Bourjois Color Boost in ‘Red Sunset’. If you want to protect your makeup and make it last all day, sweaty tubes and all, spritz a bit of the travel sized Urban Decay All Nighter which also doubles up as a refreshing face mist.
So there you have it, a brush-free makeup application suitable for those in a rush who are lucky enough to grab a seat on the commute into work.
I’m still not sure if I’m a fan of tube makeup application but sometimes it’s just one of those things you’ve got to do! Are you guilty of a bit of tube makeup action?
