Can you sense a trend here? It seems the beauty world has gone crazy for crayon-like lip balms and lipsticks. Just when I thought there couldn’t possibly be any more, another one lands on my desk. So today I thought I’d give you a run down of the ones I have in front of me. They all have pretty much exactly the same packaging with a bit at the bottom to wind up so you don’t need a sharpener. The Clinique ones weigh more and feel more high end than the Revlon and Soap & Glory as you’d expect, but let’s talk about the actual product…

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain
I’ve spoken about these here when I first got my hands on some. I absolutely can’t stand the ‘minty’ smell but they do some lovely colours and the colour pay off is really great. They do come out a bit chalky like you’d expect from a drugstore lipstick but if your lips are well conditioned they can look great. They’re definitely a good budget buy (if you don’t mind the smell).

Clinique Chubby Stick
The Clinique chubby sticks look so pretty and they come in a ridiculous selection of colours. If I’m honest though I was a little underwhelmed when I first tried them. Don’t get me wrong I think they feel gorgeous on your lips, they smell pleasant (like lipstick) and they apply like a dream, but you just don’t get much colour pay off. If a lip balm is what you’re after then these are lovely, but they won’t satisfy your colour needs (although some shades come up more pigmented than others).

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks
MMMmmmm these smell good. If you prefer a sweeter smell to your lip products then you’ll like these because they smell of strawberries. They’re definitely the most glossy out of all four so you have to be a gloss fan to wear these. The colour pay off isn’t amazing and reminds me a bit of the chubby sticks. So again, these would be best for the lip balm lovers who like a subtle lip. They’re supposed to plump up your lips (without the tingling) so if it’s plumping you want then maybe give these a go.

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense
And the winner is…. *ding ding ding*. I haven’t been this excited over a lip product in quite a while (ok maybe like a month, but that’s long for a beauty blogger!). The colour pay-off on these babies is incredible and they are really easy to apply. If you’re using a bright shade you may want to use a lip liner for a bit of definition but other than that I literally can’t fault these. They apply beautifully and leave you with a strong, glossy colour. They are a massive step up from the original chubby sticks and they’re great for people who want to wear lipstick but feel it looks a bit OTT on them. These are softer, less chalky and come in gorgeous shades. I’m in love. You can see my using a bright red one in this video.

They all have their different pro’s and con’s and are suitable for different people in different situations. Which one is your favourite?
